According to the Florida Department of Health, statistics rank Florida as the third highest human trafficking destination in the United States with half of all trafficking victims under the age of 18 (Source).
The JLGO’s Human Trafficking Awareness Committee was formed in 2018 to raise awareness of the issue of human trafficking in the Greater Orlando community. The committee will host a movie screening in Fall 2018 and an informational panel in Spring 2019 open to members of our community who seek to learn more about the issue.
Additionally, the JLGO’s Human Trafficking Awareness Committee partners with Florida Abolitionist, a local non-governmental 501(c)3 organization established to stop human trafficking. Through this partnership, the JLGO also supports the Greater Orlando Human Trafficking Task Force’s annual Human Trafficking Awareness Day in January.
