Healthy, Informed, Playful (HIP) Kids
In response to our community’s needs in the areas of childhood health, hunger, and poverty, the JLGO created HIP Kids. Since its inception in 2010, the HIP Kids program attempts to solve the immediate and long-term challenges faced by hungry children.
We meet at the Rock Lake Community Center twice a month to teach kids about healthy food, habits and lifestyles.
Thanks to our partnership with the Second Harvest Food Bank, in the first year of the program, the JLGO provided HIP Kids with the following:
- 9,600 fresh fruit after-school snacks distributed
- 552 Pantry Plus boxes (dinner meal essentials) delivered
- 436 hot dinners served
- 67 holiday gifts received
- 495 volunteer hours donated
