The Junior League of Greater Orlando actively participates as a member of the State Public Affairs Committee of the Junior Leagues of Florida, an organization representing 11,000 voting women in the state. Our three priorities include at risk-youth, health and hunger, and community safety.
We advocate for eliminating food deserts in Florida, especially in our Central Florida community. Food deserts are typically found in low-income neighborhoods with little to no access to fresh fruit, vegetables, and other healthy foods.
Today, a staggering 28.4% of all children in the state of Florida live in a food insecure environment. In Orange County alone, approximately 53,000 children live in food insecure homes.
