Junior League Asks Orlando Community to Hustle to End Child Hunger
-Volunteer Organization Hosts Fundraising 5K October 27th and Says ‘Bring
Canned Food’-

ORLANDO, Fla. (August 22, 2011) – After kicking off a new League year with a focus on childhood health, hunger and poverty, the Junior League of Greater Orlando (JLGO) will host its fourth annual Harvest Hustle 5K run/walk October 27th in Baldwin Park to support the Second
Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida and to fund League-sponsored community programs focused on ending childhood hunger. An after-party and costume contest will be held in Baldwin Park immediately following the race.

“As members of the Greater Orlando community, we have a responsibility to nourish and care for local children who are our future leaders. What better way to accomplish that than to participate in a fun and health-centered fundraising event like the Harvest Hustle 5K in a family neighborhood?” said Allison Hudson, president of the Junior League of Greater Orlando. The fourth annual “Harvest Hustle 5K: Race to End Childhood Hunger” will take place in Baldwin Park and will begin at the intersection of New Broad and Jake Streets on Thursday, October 27th, at 6:30 p.m. An after-party and costume contest will be held in Baldwin Park immediately following the race.

To make the event a success, JLGO invites the community to participate and to bring nonperishable food. Race participants and spectators are asked to bring canned food items as donations that will go directly to Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida to help eradicate childhood hunger in the Greater Orlando area.

According to statistics provided by the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, nearly half of the people served by Central Florida’s major local food bank are children. “This event is such a great way to help our neighbors who are struggling. Every single can and package of food makes a difference for someone, and it’s a contribution that is so easy to make.

We’re so thrilled to be a part of the Junior League’s caring support of this community,” said Dave Krepcho, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida president and CEO.

All participants will receive a t-shirt and refreshments. The top male and female overall finishers, as well as the top three finishers in each age division will receive awards.
